Την πρόκριση στους «16» του Παγκοσμίου Κυπέλλου πανηγυρίζει, εκτός συγκλονιστικού απροόπτου, η Ρωσία, η οποία επικράτησε με 3-1 της Αιγύπτου στην Αγία Πετρούπολη, για την 2η αγωνιστική του 1ου ομίλου.
Οι διοργανωτές ήταν καταιγιστικοί και με γκολ των Φατί (47’ αυτ.), Τσερίσεφ (59’) και Τζιούμπα (62’) πήραν τη νίκη. Το μόνο που κατάφεραν οι «Φαραώ» ήταν να μειώσουν στο 73’ με πέναλτι του Σαλάχ.
Η Ρωσία έχει πλέον έξι βαθμούς με 8 γκολ ενεργητικό, έχοντας την καλύτερη επίθεση, μέχρι στιγμής, στη διοργάνωση και αν αύριο κερδίσει η Ουρουγουάη τη Σαουδική Αραβία, εξασφαλίζει (όπως και η «τσελέστε») και μαθηματικά την πρόκριση.
