US astronaut Edgar Mitchell, one of the only 12 men that ever walked on the moon, died on 04 February 2016 in West Palm Beach, Florida at the age of 85 'on the eve of the 45th anniversary of his lunar landing', NASA said in a media release. Mitchell joined 'Apollo 14' commander Alan Shephard, Jr., the first American in space, in the lunar module Antares, which touched down on 05 February 1971, in the Fra Mauro highlands, NASA said. Σε ηλικία 85 ετών απεβίωσε την Πέμπτη το βράδυ ο πρώην αστροναύτης της NASA, Εντγκαρ Μίτσελ.
Πρόκειται για τον έκτο αστροναύτη που πάτησε ποτέ στη Σελήνη, οδηγό της σεληνάκατου Antares της αποστολής Apollo 14.
Σύμφωνα με την ανακοίνωση της NASA o Μίτσελ απεβίωσε λόγω ασθένειας σε γηροκομείο της Φλόριντα.
